About Our Centre

The Silversand Natural Horsemanship Centre is situated near the Riverland township of Blanchetown which is 40 minutes drive from the Barossa Valley and 2 hours drive north of Adelaide in South Australia.

The property itself consists of 160 acres of mainly mallee scrub and is home to kangaroos, hairy nose wombats and many species of native birds. The Centre offers you the opportunity to live in a natural environment with like minded people and to focus on your horsemanship skills.

To this end we hold live-in courses in April and October to cater both for basic and more advanced groups. We endeavour to keep these groups to a small number to ensure maximum attention for each individual. We like to see the centre as a place where people can grow mentally and emotionally as well as master the physical skills required to be a Natural Horseman. For this purpose we have a selection of video tapes and books that can be made use of.

In the future we hope to be able to offer other activities and courses (some of a relaxing, holistic or educational type) and will invite experts in those areas to lead them.

Facilities for you:
Clean caravan accommodation
Shower and toilet block at the Emu Shed
Recreation and cooking facilities

for your horse:
Safe individual horse yards

for the two of you:
Large fenced riding arena
60' diameter round yard
Challenge area
Access to quiet riding trails.

If you are combining this with a holiday or plan to take a break from Horsemanship this is an excellent area in which to do so. The River Murray is 10 kilometres away and you can hire a houseboat, fish, swim or just relax with a drink and watch the pelicans. The Barossa Valley, 40 minutes drive to the south-west, is home to Orlando Winery (of Jacobs Creek fame), Penfolds and 54 other different wineries where you can enjoy free wine tasting and cellar door sales. Other places of interest are Banrock Station, Portee Station, Yookamurra Sanctuary, Mallyons Bush Restaurant, or further afield Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills, Glenelg Beach and Kangaroo Island.
