Announcements

Aim: To encourage and support each other in pursuit of greater understanding of the principles of Silversand Horsemanship, always working for the benefit of our horses, in a positive and non-judgemental environment. Constitution: The welfare of the horse must be of prime importance in every activity. It should always be recognised that the horse learns from the release. Rally days are to be a non-threatening, non-judgemental positive environment. To be a member of the Support Group, participants must have completed a Silversand Clinic before attending a rally, and must attend a minimum of one Silversand Clinic per year. This group should not be looked at as an alternative to Silversand Clinics. It is expected that participants go to Silversand Clinics regularly. The aim of this group is to encourage each other and practice what is taught at Silversand Clinics. All participants must have public liability insurance which specifies as covering stock (Hobby Farm or Farm Policy - not Domestic) All participants must sign an indemnity form. All participants are responsible for the maintenance and safety of their equipment. All participants are responsible for their own and their horses safety. It would be prefered that riders wear helmets. Participants are responsible for any damage caused by themselves or their horse. All participants should be aware of other riders and horses at all times, and their level of ability. When setting tasks or activities the ability of riders and horses must be taken into account. Every member is encouraged to run a rally, or at the least to be involved in offering suggestions and ideas for rallies. All participants must supply their own lunch and feed for their horse (unless other arrangements eg BBQ). Participants are responsible for cleaning up after their horse before leaving.

Very quickly.....The rally at Jason's went really well - we were excited to start with as it had rained (doesn't happen very often in the Riverland) but were VERY excited about the great change we saw in Mel and Faith - absolutely brilliant! Mel did some fantastic work getting Faith listening and respecting her at liberty in the round yard. ....I am really busy at the moment so if anyone else would like to write anything about the rally that would be great!!!!

We all had a great time at our rally at Jason's on Saturday. We had a variety of tasks to do which included walking over a bridge, carrying a 'sheep' from barrel to barrel, a 'keyhole' challenge with roll-back, weaving through poles and barrels. The key to all these was making sure that we kept our horses (and ourselves!) light and not get carried away with excitement and get too fast too quick!! Jason did some excellent work on Rusty, which was good practise as he was competing the next day at the Pony Club in a novelties day. It was great to see Bruce helping his young horse gain confidence with a lot of new and scary stuff in a high energy environment. Wendy had her new young horse Spud who took it all in his stride and ended up with some great sideways work. And I was really happy with the lightness I got from Flash - although forwards still needs some work (don't think we are going to win any barrel races!!!) Our next rally is going to be earlier than usual - it will be on Sunday 12th July at Jason's. Wendy is going on a road trip to Queensland later in the month and I am off to China to trek some of the Great Wall. (This is a another fundraiser for kids with cancer like the Sandakan Death March trek in Borneo that I did last year - I highly recommend them if anyone out there is interested - I think the trek next year is climbing Mt Kilamanjaro in Kenya). We will both be back mid August. However anyone who is keen, please organise a rally while we are away. The next rally with be focusing on Liberty work and then maybe working into some bareback and bridleless for those who want to. (Jason has a round yard that you can use). Please let Jason or myself know if you can make it. Hope to see you then.
